Shopping Centres in Porto

There are quite a few shopping centres around Porto and in the various towns comprising Grande Porto. When the weather turns ugly, these malls make excellent refuge from the rain and the city’s slippery streets. Here’s a list of some of the main shopping centres:

Arrábida Shopping Centre
This immense complex is at the western end of Vila Nova da Gaia, just off the Ponte da Arrábida. The centre boasts a massive multiplex and hordes of shops.

Cidade do Porto
Cidade do Porto is south of the Casa da Música, in Boavista. This shopping centre has a cinema and a food court on the top floor. The stores are installed on the floors below. It’s just around the corner from the HF Fenix Hotel.

El Corte Inglés
This Spanish department store is in Vila Nova de Gaia. International and Spanish brands mingle together on the shelves of this multi-storied haven for the fashion conscious. There’s also a large supermarket stocked with local and international (mainly Spanish) products in the building.

Norte Shopping
Head out to Norte Shopping and overwhelm your finely honed shopping senses. It’s northeast of the centre, on the way to Matosinhos. Hundreds of shops and outlet stores are spread across 75,000 square meters. You’re bound to find what you’re looking for, and more likely than not, at a fairly reasonable price.

Via Catarina
While window browsing in the boutique clothing stores and food shops along Rua Santa Catarina, you can always pop in on the Via Catarina shopping centre. It’s a covered shopping centre with natural light falling through the glass ceiling. They have a lot of brand names to choose from. There’s also a supermarket downstairs.

Mar Shopping
The shopping centre in Matosinhos, Mar Shopping has more than 200 stores and with the presence of IKEA and other market leaders such as Fnac, Jumbo hypermarket and stores of the group Inditex, such as Zara and Massimo Dutti. This commercial space has seven movie theaters and has a 'family friendly' concept, since there are leisure facilities for adults and children.
