After sampling some Port in Vila Nova de Gaia, you can soak up the alcohol with a hefty Francesinha at Ar de Rio (Avenida Diogo Leite 5). They serve snacks and a variety of grilled meats. The interior gets lots of natural light and offers great views of Porto. The restaurant is next to the river, across the street from the wine lodges.
A second Dom Tonho (Avenida Diogo Leite 4400-509) is installed on the south side of the Douro by the water’s edge. Expect the same great food and service you’d find in Ribeira.
For some upscale Indian fare, try Real Indiana (Cais de Gaia, Loja 360). With a vibrant interior, authentic Indian flavours and a fantastic panorama of Porto, this place makes the perfect spot to end your visit to Gaia.
